Artificial thatch is snug...

...safe and lasts for many years. It helps you not only to protect nature, but also reap many other benefits.

Does not burn

An end to the threat of fires! Artificial thatch does not burn. Its resistance to thermal radiation and flying sparks has been tested and has been classified as hard roofing according to German standards (DIN 4102 Part 7). Houses with an artificial thatched roof can even incorporate a chimney. Optimum insulation Artificial thatch provides optimum weather protection It acts like an insulating layer, guaranteeing a pleasant, cosy temperature inside the house.

Durable

Artificial thatch is extremely long-lasting. It is made to withstand the elements for several decades, requires little maintenance, and does not rot or act as a breeding-ground for moss, algae or mould. As it retains its intrinsic colour, there are no pronounced differences in colour if the roof is subsequently extended or modified.

Conforms to standard building regulations

There are no longer extra hurdles of bureaucracy to overcome. Artificial thatch is considered a hardroofing material, so buildings can be spaced as normal. The minimum spacing for buildings using soft-roofing material is usually double. Artificial thatch often even makes it possible to build right up against an adjacent plot. This means that artificial thatch can also be used for renovating a roof that was previously covered with conventional materials. This vastly simplifies the process of obtaining official approval (locally differences reserved).

No extra insurance costs

The insurance premiums for houses with artificial thatching are the same as those for hard-roofed buildings, in other words significantly lower than for natural thatch, which is a soft-roofing material. Although artificial thatch initially costs more than natural thatch, the lower insurance classification means that the additional outlay is soon recouped (locally differences reserved).

Simple to lay

Artificial-thatch shingles can be laid on roofs with a pitch of 25' upwards, and are quick and easy to install irrespective of which side is exposed to the weather. Even skylights and guttering can easily be incorporated.

Making light of tricky shapes

Whether arched, rounded or curved, artificial-thatch shingles are very versatile and can be fitted around any shape of roof by means of heating. Even problematic shapes such as bull's-eye windows are a straightforward affair. Special shapes for the ridge and eaves, copper angle sections and clay ridge pantiles for the end of the ridge add the finishing touches.
